Pune Police Gets Kalicharan Maharaj’s Custody In Communal Speech Case
Pune, Jan 5 : The Pune police took over the custody of Kalicharan Maharaj from the Raipur Police which had recently arrested him for alleged slander against Mahatma Gandhi, informed the Police sources on Wednesday.
It further said that a team of cops had reached Raipur two days ago for seeking the transit remand of Maharaj who allegedly made communal statements during a program held here last year.
Organised by religious outfit leader Milind Ekbote, the controversial function took place on December 19 which was celebrated as ‘Shivpratap Din’ as the day marked the killing of Mughal General Afzal Khan.
During the event, Maharaj gave inflammatory speech against a particular community, read a complaint filed by constable Somnath Dage against six persons, including Ekbote.
In the same regard, transit remand of Maharaj was sought from the Raipur Police which approved the request.
The accused has been brought to Pune and will be shortly produced before a local court, police apprised.
