Thane, Apr 5 : The Rural Police have arrested a 32-year-old man from Deogaon of Murbad in the district on the charge of allegedly brutally killing a 78-year-old village woman.

On March 23 she left the house for temple but never returned.
Following which, the family members searched for her and later filed a missing person complaint with the police next day.

The body of the victim was found in the jungle on March 26, following which the police registered a case of accidental death and initiated a probe, police said Tuesday.

During the probe, police came to know that the accused with an intention to rob the woman attacked her with a coconut on her head and killed her and then abandoned her body in the jungle.

They arrested accused Vikas Barku Jadhav on Monday and presented him before a local magistrate who remanded him into police custody till April seven, sources added.
