Sambalpur, Jan 21: An IT professional has been a victim of deception by the cyber frauds. Borne a heavy loss, a lesson for life and had the worst ever scary experience too.
As per information, Sanjib Kumar Padhi, a resident of Sambalpur, who works at New Delhi as an IT professional. Due to Covid-19 pandemic he was operating from home.
Few days back he found some problem in operating his account in ICICI bank from mobile. Hence, he searched the customer care number of the bank from Google. After searching the number from Google search, Padhi contacted the so called customer care to solve his problem.
To his misfortune, it was a number of the cyber frauds instead of the bank’s customer care, of which Padhi was clueless.
The man impersonated himself as the bank’s customer care representative and started instructing the engineer as to what to do. Even he installed an App –‘Any desk application’ in his mobile, as per instructions that enabled the fraud to use his mobile and know the OTP and other details sent to him from the bank including from his other accounts.
The cyber fraud even collected all secrets of his other bank accounts and made withdrawals from it in no time. There was no scope for Padhi to know it was a fraud operating his mobile through ‘any desk application’.
When Padhi came to know that he was cheated, the fraud had already withdrawn Rs.5 lakh lakh from his accounts. Finally, the victim lodged an FIR in the cyber police station requesting to recover the money and also take action against such unscrupulous people.
The cyber police station has registered a case and is investigating the matter to nab the culprits and recover the money.
