9 Held By Delhi Police In Delhi For Assaulting Woman
New Delhi, Jan 27 : Seven women have been arrested and two boys (minor as claimed) apprehended in the national capital after a 20-year-old woman was head-shaven, her face blackened and she was paraded with a garland of shoes at Vivek Vihar in east Delhi, police said here on Thursday. The shocking incident took place on Wednesday.
Police swung into action after a video clip of the incident went viral on social media, showing several persons surrounding the woman and thrashing her, even as some others hurled abuses. A senior police official said six people have been arrested and two of them were being interrogated regarding the incident. Efforts went on to identify the other people surrounding the woman when she was beaten up and paraded on the streets. Earlier, a Delhi Police tweet said a woman was sexually attacked in Shahdara district and that the police were providing all possible help to the victim.
The Delhi Commission for Women has issued a notice to Delhi Police, seeking action against those involved in the alleged abduction, sexual assault and disgracing of the woman in Vivek Vihar. DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal said a video of the incident was received by the Commission, which showed the sad plight of the victim. The Commission asked Delhi Police to submit a detailed Action Taken Report within 72 hours.
