New Delhi, Dec 19: The residents of Delhi woke up to a bone chilling Sunday morning, as the minimum temperature plunged to the season’s lowest of 4.6 degree Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department.
On Saturday the city witnessed the first cold day of the season with the mercury dipping to 6 degree Celsius.
The India Meteorological Department also forecast, that minimum temperature is set to dip further over the next few days. “The minimum temperature on Sunday is likely to settle at around 5 degree Celsius and the maximum could be 18 degree Celsius,” it said.
The weather agency also predicted that cold conditions will continue for the next two to three days in other parts of northern India.
“Cold Wave to severe cold wave conditions very likely to prevail over some parts of north Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana & Chandigarh till December 21, 2021,”
“Dry northwesterly winds of about 10-15 kmph & markedly below normal Maximum Temperatures are prevailing over Punjab, Haryana, north Rajasthan since the past 3 days enhancing the adverse impact of cold wave conditions which are likely to prevail during the next 3 days & improve thereafter,” it added.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality slightly improved to the `poor` category on Sunday morning with the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) at 290.
The concentrations of PM 2.5 and PM 10 stood at 117 in the `poor` and 193 in the `moderate` category respectively, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).
According to the data of Central Pollution Control Board, (CPCB) the neighbouring parts of Delhi, also recorded their air quality in the ‘poor to very poor’ category with Faridabad at 244, Ghaziabad at 231, Gurugram at 226 and oida sector 62 at 232. An AQI between zero and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 and 500 ‘severe’.
