It was a great gesture from the Union Sports Ministry to have made an allocation of Rs.8.16 lakhs for upskilling C A Bhavani Devi, the first ever woman to represent India in the Olympics.

And that was a beginning for Bhavani Devi who has started her efforts for a podium finish in Olympics and other international competitions.

Hailing from Tamil Nadu, the young lady, who lost her father eight years ago, was pushed to a penurious state but her passion for sports, fencing, never died.

She kept on and it was under the guidance of her mother the young lady maintained her momentum intact. But that was not enough for a sports person who had dreams to hit the Olympics

It was then a well-wisher of her happened to meet Achyut Samant of KIIT and requested the latter to support Bhavani. Samanta, who has an envious track record of sports promotion, invited Bhavani to come to Odisha.

Then started Bhavani’s real journey and Samanta stood behind her like a rock-pillar giving all assistance required. It was from there the lady fencer went to Japan and took part in the Olympics 2021.

Even after her return from Japan and then conferred with the Arjun Award, she visited Odisha. Now that she has obtained the distinction and a financial succor from the center and has gone abroad to Italy where she is undergoing training for fencing.
