Olympic updates: PV Sindhu wins opener, Sania-Ankita crash out in first round

Tokyo : Following Mirabai Chanu’s historic silver medal acquisition in weightlifting lifted Indian athletes’ spirits on the opening day of the Tokyo Olympics, India look to improve their medal tally with multiple events lined up on Day 2. India’s disappointment in shooting, however, continued on Day 2 as Manu Bhaker and Yashaswini Deswal failed to qualify for 10m air pistol, finishing 12th and 13th respectively. Indian rowing team of Arjun Lal and Arvind Singh made it into the semifinals. Shuttler PV Sindhu won her opener in a fierce start to better Rio campaign. Sania Mirza and Ankita Raina crash out of the women’s doubles after losing 6-0, 6-7(0), 8-10 to the Kichenok twins of Ukraine.
