LB Election: Constituting Commission Over BC Reservation An Unintelligent Ploy : Ramadass

Puducherry, Dec 29: Former Lok Sabha Member from Puducherry Prof M Ramadass on Wednesday said that the Government order on December 17 constituting a single member commission to go into the Backward classes reservation for the Local Body Election in the Union Territory is one more tactical but unintelligent ploy of the political bosses here to dilly dally the poll.

In a letter to Lt.Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, Prof Ramadass said the Local Body Election in the UT have been kept on the back burner for 53 long years ( except 2006-2011) during the period spanning from 1968 to 2021.

It is quite unfortunate that the Lt Governor has been trapped into the irrational and undemocratic trampling of constitutional provisions in Puducherry.

Prof Ramadass said that he will be happy if Dr Soundararajn can instruct the Law Department to find ways and means of conducting the election without further delay.

It may be difficult, he said, adding that where there is a will there is a way.

He urged the Lt Governor to summon the courage and conviction of Dr.Kiran Bedi, the former Puducherry Lt Governor and tell the rulers that enough is enough and that the Constitution of India cannot be affronted in Puducherry.

Champions of Statehood demanding more powers unto themselves cannot deny powers to the lower layer of democracy and keep it under suspended animation merrily and indefinitely, he added.
