Mumbai : An FIR was registered against lyricist Javed Akhtar on Monday for his alleged remark against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh on a complaint by a criminal lawyer.
The Mulund police station has registered the FIR under IPC section 500 (punishment for defamation) on a complaint filed by advocate Santosh Dubey.
A former Rajya Sabha member, Akhtar in a recent interview drew parallels between the Taliban and Hindu extremists.
Advocate Dubey had earlier served a legal notice to Akhtar for allegedly making “false and defamatory” remarks against the RSS in an interview, and sought an apology from him.
However, the poet did not respond to the notice hence the advocate filed the complaint.
