Stalemate in Odisha Assembly for sixth consecutive day

Bhubaneswar: The stalemate in Odisha Assembly continued for the sixth consecutive day today over school teacher Mamita Meher murder case. For the first time
in the history of the state Assembly the members of the opposition BJP, Congress and the treasury bench stormed into the well on Tuesday simultaneously and created a ruckus in the house.

The house could not transact any business today except passing a unanimous resolution reiterating the request to the Union government to declare 1817 Paika Bridoha as the first war of independence due to the protest by members in the house. Speaker S. N. Patro was forced to adjourn the house at 1035hrs till 1600hrs. When the house assembled after the adjournment the BJP and the Congress members again stormed into the well and created ruckus. So the Speaker adjourned the house at 1602hrs till 1632hrs and called an all party meeting to break the deadlock but the meeting failed to solve the problem.

At 1632 hrs Minister of Culture Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi moved the resolution to request the central government to declare the Paika Bidroha as the first war of independence and it was unanimously passed in the house. After the resolution was passed the Speaker adjourned the house till 1030hrs Wednesday.
