Puri Administration Gears up for “Jawad”
Puri: Elaborate preparation is on by the Puri district administration to minimize damage in the cyclone storm predicted by the Indian met. department. District collector Samarth Verma on Thursday cancelled leave of all government employees and activated block level control room besides the integrated control room at district head quarter.
Fishermen are asked not to venture into sea for fishing and those are in sea asked to return at the earliest. They have been keep their boats and fishing equipment in secured place. Officials are asked to keep ready all cyclone shelters, store dry food, drinking water and gen sets for light and other essential food grains besides live saving drugs. The Collector asked officials of fire department, power supply and works departments to gear up their systems for relief and rescue operation, to restore power, resume drinking water supply and conduct repairs if affected in the cyclone.
Health workers are asked to identify the pregnant women in their respective areas and if needed they will be shifted to nearby hospitals. The district administration has chalked out plans to shift people from low lying areas to nearby cyclone shelters when needed. A number of medical teams have been formed and kept ready to be deployed to the affected areas.
Since the cyclonic storm is expected to hit the district with gale and torrential rains, the farmers are advised to harvest their ripe crop and keep those in safe place as early as possible. People living in low areas are advised to shift to safer places or houses as there is possibility of flood due to heavy rains triggered by the cyclone.
