Bhubaneswar : In a major achievement, the police teams of Cuttack and Dhenkanal arrested three bank dacoits 45 minutes after the loot and recovered Rs 1.05 crore from their possession.
Odisha DGP Abhay said the police also seized four country made fire arms and other weapons used by them in the crime.
Describing the sequence of events ,Mr Abhay said a cash van of private Security Company carrying cash to replenish ATMs of SBI in Tigiria was intercepted by the miscreants near Ankola under Athagarh Police Station at around 1.15 PM.
The criminals overpowered the gun man of the vehicle , assaulted the gun man ,snatched his gun and then decamped with the cash van.
On information, Police immediately swung into action and all neighbouring Police stations were alerted.
Initial investigation revealed that miscreants had abandoned the cash van and taken the cash in a private vehicle.
This information was shared with neighbouring Police stations, who had raised road blocks at different places.
Finally Dhenkanal Sadar Police could locate the vehicle and chased them. Sadar Police station team intercepted the vehicle and overpowered the miscreants.
Police recovered Rs 1.05 crore , the gun of the gun man of cash van , four country made fire arms and other weapons used in the crime from the vehicle.
Sources said the security company van was carrying Rs 1.29 crore. .
Police suspected the fourth accused fled with the rest of the money and efforts are on to nab him.
The DGP has conveyed his appreciation to Dhenkanal and Cuttack Police. Scientific Team has reached the spot. Senior Officers, SP, Dhenkanal and IG, CR have also reached the spot. Investigation is in full swing.
