Odisha After Jawad: Collectors Directed To Submit Crop Damage Report
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government on Monday directed Collectors to furnish report on crop losses in their respective districts due to cyclone Jawad induced heavy-rains. Minister of Revenue & Disaster Management, Sudam Marndi has sought damage assessment reports from all district collectors following which the affected growers will be compensated as per relief code.
“The department has already sought damage assessment report from the Collectors. After a review on the damage caused due to the rainfall, financial aid will be provided to the affected persons as per the relief code norms,” said Marndi. Earlier, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena had assured that crop loss caused by cyclone Jawad-induced rainfall will be assessed within a week’s time after the impact of the cyclone ended.
Though Jawad has weakened to a low-pressure area and ceased to cause major calamity but the triggered rainfall have damaged the standing crop in coastal and northern Odisha. “The well-marked Low Pressure Area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West BengalBangladesh coasts has weakened into a Low Pressure Area over the same region,” said the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar in its latest updates. Under its impact, light to moderate rainfall has occurred at most places over the districts of coastal Odisha and north interior Odisha and at a few places over the districts of south interior Odisha. Extremely heavy rainfall has occurred at one or two places over the district of Jagatsinghpur of north coastal Odisha.
