Kendrapara : Four persons including three officials and a woman went sent to jail on Tuesday for their involvement in selling the baby child of a dalit minor girl,an inmate of Lutheran
Mahila samiti in the district.
The district (Special) Judge court has rejected their bail petitions and remanded them into jail
custody .
Those remanded to jail custody are Purna Chandra Mallick,working at the District Child protection Unit,Bibekananda Atabudhi, legal advisor, Rabindra Mahalik, ex-employee of Letheran’s special Adoption Agency , and Rina alias Renubala Panda, the house mother of Lutheran based Child care Institution .
All the four persons had moved anticipatory bail in the High court but court rejected their bail
petitions and directed them to appear before the District judge court .
All of them appeared before the District Judge (special) court on Tuesday and filed bail petitions,
but the court rejected their bail pleas and remanded them into jail custody .
The dalit minor girl, inmate of the child care institution was raped in 2017. She later delivered a
girl child.
But after 15 days of the child’s birth, Bapi and Rina, who were working at the Lutheran’s child Care Institution allegedly sold the child and informed the unwed mother that the child was being admitted in hospital for treatment.
The victim unwed mother later brought the matter to the notice of the chairperson of Odisha State Commission For Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) Sandhyabati Pradhan, who visited the Child Care Institute (CCI) of Patalipanka –based Lutheran Mahila Samiti to conduct an inquiry.
She later directed the Child Welfare committee and the District social Security officer to conduct a detailed inquiry and submit the report.
The CWC conducted an inquiry and submitted the report to the district collector and SP of Kendrapada.
The child was adopted but guidelines were not followed for adoption,the report stated.
The Marshaghai police later registered a case against all the four accused persons but did not
arrest them.
