Kendrapara : Police today arrested five criminals on the charge of attempting to murder Tinimuhani Market committee president and joint co-ordinator of Dharma Jagarana Sena
Bibekananda Mohana alias Babuli Maharana and his PSO on July 14 last.
The Kendrapara Sadar Police seized two four wheelers, two bikes, one revolver and seven
mobile phones from their possession.
Kendrapara SP M S Sampat said police also arrested the proprietor of a Nursing home at
Asureswar and sealed the nursing home for not informing the Police and concealing the
information about the treatment of the accused.
The SP said prime accused Sheikh Mehtab and some others involved in the case, are yet to
be arrested adding that a raid is on to nab the accused.
He hoped that they would be arrested very shortly.
The SP refused to divulge the names of the absconding accused.
A special police team led by SDPO, Kendrapada, Rajib Lochan Panda conducted raids and
arrested the five accused.
As per the preliminary investigation, long standing enmity and rivalry between Babuli and the
accused is the reason behind the attack on Babuli..
Mr Sampat said on July 14 last at about 12.48 PM two unidentified persons had come in a
pulsar bike to the Swaraj Tractor showroom of Babuli Maharana ,at Ramanagar patina to
murder him.
Constable Manas Mohanty ,who was deployed as the PSO for the security of Babuli prevented
the duo motorbike-borne miscreants from entering into the showroom to meet Babuli, resulting in
a tussle and the accused later opened fire on the PSO.
The accused fled from the spot after the PSO fired and the prime accused was injured.
He removed the bullet from his body at Saha hospital in Asureswar ,before he fled from the
area, police said.
During the investigation, the special police team came to know that the gun shot injured
accused was undergoing treatment at Saha Hospital at Asureswar .
Police later conducted raids and sealed the Saha hospital along with arresting its proprietor
as he concealed the information of the accused undergoing treatment and did not inform the
police .
In July, 2019 some anti social had allegedly fired two rounds of bullets at Bibekananda
Moharana and injured him critically near Gulnagar High school Chowk on Cuttack-chandbali
road under Sadar police limit, while he was on his way to Tinimuhani Bazar, on a bike.
Later, police arrested seven persons in this connection. During investigation it was revealed
that gangster Tito, G.Babu, Chitto, and Babu sahu had directed their henchman to murder Babuli .
