An Ideal Departure: A Marriage in Odisha Solemonised Adhering To Constitution Rather Than Tradition
Ganjam: It is said that marriages are made in heaven. But, sometimes the spirits behind some marriages create a heavenly feel on the earth.
It is an inspiring story of a couple who made a marriage as per the Constitution rather than by going by the Hindu traditions. What remained different and focused that, on the day of the wedding the couple went ahead for donating blood and taking the pledge to donate their body organs.
The couple, 29 year old Bijay and 27 year old Shruti who, perhaps, were wedded to the above ideals beforehand, soon became the idols and many of their guests at the ceremony volunteered and donated blood and took the pledge to donate the body organs.
Proud of what his son did, the groom’s father, D Mohan Rao, informed that, in 2019 when his elder son got married Rao had succeeded to convince the bride’s family for similar donations. To which they had agreed and followed.
In the present case also, Rao had convinced Shruti’s parents for what happened, to solemonise the marriage as per the constitution. And the in-laws agreed, as reports said.
Rao who is a government employee believes that, the Constitution is like a holy book and the ideals and spirit it enshrines should be known by every citizen.
K N Senapati, Ganjam secretary of Humanists Rationalists Organisation, a civil society, said that, four such marriages have been solemonised in the silk city Berhampur.
