Talks fail, resident doctors camp outside Ministry

New Delhi, Dec 20: Resident doctors from government-run hospitals in the national capital on Monday decided to protest outside the Health Ministry after talks with Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on ending their dragging dispute collapsed.

“We are not going to budge and will continue our agitation indefinitely until our demands are met,” Manish, President of the Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA), told UNI.

The resident doctors of various hospitals in Delhi on Monday gathered in front of Nirman Bhawan over the delay in NEET PG 2021 counselling.

On Monday, the Minister sought another week to address their issues but the doctors appeared exhausted due to lack of any concrete assurance from the government.

Patient care was affected for the fourth straight day as resident doctors of the three hospitals run by the Centre and some by the Delhi government boycotted all services, including emergency, as part of a nationwide agitation called by FORDA.

The doctors said the resumption of services at the hospitals will not be started until the matter is listed for an early hearing in the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court has given January 6 to hear the matter.

FORDA hopes to force the government to file an application for an emergency hearing of the matter amid the winter break of the apex court.

“The only option left (for the government) is to ask SC for an emergency hearing because we have been pleading for counselling for a long time. The academic session for the resident doctors is already delayed for a year. The government should be sensitive towards our grievances,” Dr Manish said.
