Railways to procure all components of Vande Bharat trains from Indian suppliers
New Delhi : The Indian Railways has decided to procure all the components for Vande Bharat trains only from Indian suppliers.
“Giving boost to Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhyian railways will procure all components for Vande Bharat train only from Indian suppliers,” BJP said in a tweet, which was endorsed by the Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw by re-tweeting it.
“Vande Bharat trains have been one of the most successful products of the Make in India mission,” he said in a tweet.
The railways plans to operate 102 Vande Bharat trains by March 2024.
On 75th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced to launch 75 new Vande Bharat Express trains to connect different parts of the country in 75 weeks to mark the ongoing ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.’
On August 30, Indian Railways floated a tender for 58 rakes of Vande Bharat Express trains.
Earlier this year, railways had filed a tender for 44 rakes of Vande Bharat.
102 Vande Bharat trains would be ready by 2024, including the new 58 rakes.
Currently, only two such Shatabdi-type semi-high speed trains are operational on the railway network.
