Purvanchal expressway a new chapter of UP’s development: PM

Sultanpur: The new Purvanchal expressway will write a new chapter of the development of Uttar Pradesh, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi while slamming the previous governments for ignoring the development of the state.

While inaugurating the 341-kilometer-long Purvanchal expressway from Lucknow to Ghajipur, here in Sultanpur on Tuesday in presence of UP governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Modi said the leaders of the previous government felt insulted to stand beside him.

“I was pained to see that the then UP government didn’t cooperate with the Centre in the development programs. They refused to stand beside me fearing to loose their vote bank. When I used to come as an MP of UP, they used to disappear after receiving me at airport,” he said. PM said the way politics and government were running in UP in the past didn’t pay attention to the state’s all-round and holistic development.

“Purvanchal region was captured by mafia and poverty. I’m happy that today this region is writing a new chapter of development,” he said. Modi said the UP has showed its capabilities and Purvanchal expressway is a glaring example. “A modern expressway has come up in area where it was just a piece of land 3-4 years back. At 21 places on the new expressway, industrial manufacturing units would be established.”

In UP, governments have come who showed dreams of industrialization without worrying about connectivity, he said. “The poor should get pucca houses, they should have toilets, women should not have to go out to defecate in the open, everyone should have electricity in their homes, there were many such works which needed to be done here in UP and we have done it,” he said. Talking about the air show on the expressway, Modi said the roar of these aircraft will also go in the ears of the people who neglected the defence infrastructure of the nation for decades.
“Country’s security is as important as its prosperity. In a short while from now, we will see how Purvanchal Expressway has now become one more power for the Indian Air Force during emergency,” he added. The PM also lauded CM Yogi Adityanath for the construction of the expressway in record time.
