Agra : Noted criminal Badan Singh, with a reward of Rs one lakh was killed along with one of his accomplices in an encounter in Kachhapura area of ​​police station Jagner on early Thursday morning.
Singh was also involved in the kidnapping of a local doctor Umakant Gupta and extortion.
According to police, during the encounter, criminals bullet also hit the bullet proof jackets of SSP Agra and SP West and other policemen. Two members of the police team were also injured in the encounter.
Police said kidnapping of Dr Umakant Gupta, resident of Trans Yamuna colony was hatched by criminal Badan Singh of Dholpur, Rajasthan with the help of his accomplice, a girl named Sandhya alias Mangala. The girl had talked to the doctor as Anjali and lured him in for a needy job.
The doctor was freed by the police only after 31 hours. Badan Singh used to work for dacoit Keshav Gurjar gang in Rajasthan.
ADG, Agra Zone Rajiv Krishna had announced a reward of Rs one lakh on Badan Singh. A police team was camping in Dholpur itself to catch Badan Singh. However, the criminal and one of his accomplice, who is yet to be identified was killed in an encounter in Kachhpura area.
According to Dr Umakant Gupta, the miscreants took off from his car and made them sit on the bike on Tuesday night. After going some distance, after feeding, he was taken to the field on foot. As the day progressed, the miscreants had brought them inside the ravine.
Later police rescued him from the criminals hideout after killing them.
