New Punjab CM demands rollback of three farms laws

New Delhi : Hours after taking oath as Punjab Chief Minister, Charanjit Singh Channi on Monday demanded the centre to withdraw the three farms laws, which were passed by Parliament in September last year.

While addressing his first conference in Chandigarh, Channi said,”Punjab government stands with the farmers.

We appeal to the centre to withdraw the three farm laws,” He further said that the government will waive water and electricity bills of farmers.

Farmers had began the protest on November 25 last year, when thousands of farmers — mainly from Punjab and Haryana — marched towards the national capital demanding a complete repeal of the legislation, as part of a “Dilli Chalo” campaign.

The three Bills were introduced in Parliament on September 14.

After parliament passed the three bills on September 20, the President gave his accent on September 27

The farmer’s fears that the laws will lead to the abolishment of the minimum support price (MSP) guaranteed by the government on select crops, and leave them at the mercy of big corporates.

The three laws are the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020; and Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020.
