Lucknow DGPs conference: Modi-Shah to attend

Lucknow: Lucknow, has been decked up for the maiden DGPs and IGPs national conference here from Friday to Sunday. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the conference at the Uttar Pradesh police headquarters at the Signature Building on Friday, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the valedictory session on Sunday.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval will also address the conference along with chiefs of the paramilitary forces. Almost all the sessions will be closed sessions and there would be media restrictions, said sources.

UP DGP Mukul Goel said on Thursday that around 80 heads of states and UT police, along with chief of the paramilitary forces would be attending the meet. Prme Minister Modi is expected to reach Lucknow on Saturday to attend the DGP’s conference along with Union Home Minister Shah.

The DGP said key security issues such as left-wing extremism, terrorism, cyber crime, ISIS, crime against women, pandemic and other challenges before the security personnel will be discussed at the three-day meet. Every state DGP will give presentations while several committees have been formed for the smooth conduct of the conference, he said. Amit Shah will be the chief guest of the inaugural day and will give away medals. The PM will attend the meet on November 20 and 21 and give reward medals besides addressing the conference.

Since 2014, the DGP-IG conference has been held in different states. In 2020, it was held virtually due to Covid-19. The conference was held in Guwahati in 2014, Rann of Kutch in 2015, Hyderabad in 2016, Tekanpur in Madhya Pradesh in 2018, and Pune in 2019.

Lucknow district authorities have done beautification of the roads and other places leading to the venue of the DGPs conference. Lucknow Police Commissionerate has made elaborate security arrangements for the meeting and around 2,000 additional police forces have been deployed along with CCTV cameras. Night vision drones will also be deployed for strengthening the security in the area.
