New Delhi, Dec 18: A 45-year-old senior scientist was arrested in connection with the December 10 blast at the Rohini court here, Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana said on Saturday. Police said personal enmity led to the bombing.
Asthana said the scientist, Bharat Bhushan Katariya, hatched a plan to harm his neighbour, a lawyer in the Rohini court. The lawyer and scientist are neighbours and had filed four to five cases against each other in a long running row.
Katariya placed a bag containing the IED just behind the lawyer when he was seated in the courtroom. He used a remote to detonate the explosive.
Asthana said: “CCTV shows the scientist had two bags when he entered the courtroom. While exiting he had only one bag. The police investigated a black bag that was found at the crime scene.
“The black bag became a vital lead for investigators who traced its manufacturer and buyers. Then the police got some hints about the scientist. During the raid, the same bag that was seen in the CCTV, documents and files were found from his house,” said Asthana.
The police questioned owners of over 1,000 cars parked in the court complex to know the purpose of their visit that day. Evidence from the spot showed the IED was made with local two-wheeler instruments and some chemicals easily available in the market.
