Kashmir valley shivers in cold, nights become even more colder as temperature plunge further

Srinagar : Kashmir valley continued to shiver in cold as minimum temperature showed a further dip making nights more colder while temperature in Drass and kargil also plunged disrupting normal life on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Drass, Leh and Kargil in Ldakh Union Territory were also coolest places in the region.

Drass, the second coldest place after Siberia recorded a minimum temperature of minus 14 degree Celsius on Saturday, Leh at minus 7.1 degree Celsius against the minus 7.0 a day ago while it was minus 3.2 degree Celsius at Kargil Saturday against the minus 1.9 degree Celsius the previous day.

A Meteorological Department Official said, Srinagar settled on sub zero temperature against the minimum temperature recorded 0.7 degree a day ago with cold breeze further intensified coupled with morning fog at most of the palaces.

The sun appeared but the visibility was dim due to foggy weather. Famous Dal Lake and Mughal gardens on the Boulevard road were also engulfed with thick fog and vehicles were playing with head lights on.

He said, the famous ski resort of Gulmarg plunged minimum temperature as minus 2.9 degree Celsius against the 0.6 degree Celsius recorded the previous day.

A report said, it was very cold in Gulmarg with thick fog surrounding around making visibility very poor.

Tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir was recorded a minimum of minus 3.5 degree Celsius against minus 3.4 degree Celsius a day ago. Similarly at Qazigund where the minimum temperature was sub zero temperature yesterday was recorded at minus 1.0 degree Celsius today, MeT said.

He said Kokernag also showed a further dip in the night temperature was recorded as 0.4 degree Celsius against the 0.8 degree Celsius on Friday. In frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara the minimum temperature was minus 1.1 degree Celsius against the minus 0.9 degree Celsius a day ago.

The weather is likely to remain dry in Kashmir valley and Ladakh, a MeT official said.
