New Delhi: Indian Army Chief General MM Naravane has officially taken charge as the Chief of Staff Committee, which consists of all three service chiefs.
Following the untimely demise of Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat in an Indian Air Force helicopter crash on December 8, the post was left vacant .
As per a news agency, Naravane has been given the charge of the chairman of the committee as he is the senior-most among the service chiefs.
Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari and Indian Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar had taken charge of their respective posts on September 30 and November 30, respectively.
The CoSC on Tuesday met and condoled the death of General Rawat, his wife Madhulika and 11 armed forces personnel who died in the fateful chopper crash last week.
Group Captain Varun Singh, who was the lone survivor of the crash, too succumbed to his injuries at a military hospital in Bengaluru on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, General Naravane yesterday spoke to Fahd bin Abdullah Al-Mutair, the Commander of the Royal Saudi Land Forces of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and touched upon issues of bilateral defence ties.
“General MM Naravane #COAS had telephonic interaction with Lieutenant General Fahd bin Abdullah Al-Mutair, Commander, Royal Saudi Armed Forces, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and discussed issues of bilateral defence cooperation,” the Indian Army said on social media platform Twitter on Wednesday.
