India has recorded 236 cases of Omicron, 7,495 fresh Covid-19 infections and 434 fatalities : Health Ministry

New Delhi, Dec 23: A total of 236 cases of the new variant of COVID-19 Omicron have been reported so far in India, the Union Health Ministry said on Thursday.

Out of the 236 cases, 104 were discharged following their recovery from the disease, the Ministry data showed.

As per the latest bulletin issued by the Health Ministry, Maharashtra reported the maximum number of cases at 65, followed by Delhi 64 and Tamil Nadu at 34.

Twenty one cases were reported from Rajasthan, Karnataka 19, Kerala 15, Gujarat 14, Jammu and Kashmir three, two each from Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, one each from Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh and Ladakh, it said.

Meanwhile, the total COVID caseload in the country rose to 3,47,65,976 with the detection of 7,495 new cases in the last 24 hours, while 434 deaths pushed the death toll to 4,78,759.

The number of recoveries rose to 3,42,08,926 as 6,960 people recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours. Active cases stood at 78,291 in India.

According to the bulletin, 66.86 crore tests for COVID-19 have been done so far.

India has administered 139.70 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccine so far under the ongoing nationwide vaccination drive.
