Gp Capt Varun’s last rites to be performed in MP capital

Bhopal: The mortal remains of Shaurya Chakra-recipient Group Captain Varun Singh – who succumbed in Bengaluru on Wednesday – are scheduled to be conveyed on Thursday to the Madhya Pradesh capital. “A military aircraft shall bring the body,” Collector Avinash Lavania confirmed.

The officer was the son of city-resident Colonel KP Singh (Retd) who served with Army Air Defence. Gp Capt Singh’s sibling Lieutenant Commander Tanuj Singh is in the Indian Navy.

“The cremation is to take place at the Bhadbhada Vishram Ghat,” retired Brigadier Vinayak Ramnarayan, Vishisht Seva Medal, told UNI.

Gp Capt Singh was fatally injured in the Mi-17 V5 helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu that claimed the lives of India’s first Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, his spouse Mrs Madhulika Rawat and others.
