Freedom fighter and ex-minister G Madegowda passes away

Mandya, Jul 17 : Freedom fighter and veteran politician of Mandya G Madegowda passed away in a private hospital here, following age-related illness on Saturday night.
He was 94 and survived by four sons and daughter.
Madegowda, who served as Forest Minister in R. Gundurao-led Congress Government in the 1980s, was elected thrice from the then Kirugavalu Assembly segment in Mandya district. He was also elected as Lok Sabha MP from Mandya twice in 1989 and 1991.


A veteran politician from Mandya district, Madegowda was in the forefront of Cauvery agitation and was part of many a farmers struggle for many decades.
He also participated in Shivapura agitation in 1938 and quit India movement in 1942.


Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, former chief ministers Siddaramaiah and Kumaraswamy condoled the death of the senior politician who rendered his service for the country
