Civil Aviation Minister to inaugurate BVLOS drone trials on Sep 11

Hyderabad : Skye air, a drone delivery service provider, on Thursday announced that the BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of sight) drone trials official inauguration will be done by Union Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia on September 11.
The official trials would only begin after the flag off is done on Saturday in the presence of Telangana State Minister and other officials, Skye Air said in a statement here.
Clarifying on the Press Release issued on behalf of Skye Air Mobility on the drone delivery trials of MFTS (Medicine from the Sky) on Wednesday, it said the press release on Skye Air Mobility and Bluedart on the drone trials under the Telangana Govt project ‘Medicine from the Sky’ has been unintentionally mis-communicated.
We would like to clarify that initially for the first two days from September 9 and 10, the company will only be testing for VLOS flight (Visual Line of sight in 500 meters) and prepare for enabling BVLOS from September 11.
The Mumbai-based logistics company Blue Dart has teamed up with the drone delivery startup Skye Air Mobility for Telangana government’s “Medicine from the Sky” project.
Earlier in a release, Skye Air, a drone delivery technology solutions provider, said that drone delivery trials under ‘ MFTS’ project of Telangana Government to kick start from Thursday and the trials for delivery of medicines and vaccines will be held in Vikarabad outskirts of the city from Sept 9 till October 17.
‘Medicine from the Sky’ is an ambitious project of Telangana Government and it will become the first State to start trials of Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone flights for delivery of Covid-19 vaccines.
From September 11 onwards, BVLOS drone flights will take place for 9-10 kms distances. These flights will be with consignments of vaccine, medical samples and other healthcare items, the release added.
