Centre sanctioned over Rs 749 cr under special package for BTC in last 3 yrs: Reddy

New Delhi, Dec 13: Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) G Kishan Reddy on Monday informed that his ministry sanctioned Rs 749.63 crore under special package for Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) for various developmental projects in last three years.

In a written reply in Lok Sabha, Reddy said, “The DoNER Ministry does not release funds to BTC directly. However, it provides funds to the Assam government under ‘special package’ for BTC for various developmental projects. Under this package of Rs 750 crore, 65 projects for Rs 749.63 crore have been sanctioned, and Rs 714.24 crore released during the last three years.”

He informed that 54 projects worth Rs 589.11 crore were completed and remaining projects are at various stages of implementation.

“A new memorandum of settlement (MoS) was signed among the Government of India, Assam government and Bodo Groups (All Bodo Students Union and National Democratic Front of Bodoland factions) on January 27, 2020 . This MoS, inter alia, states that Assam government may earmark a sum of Rs 250 crore per annum for a period of three years for special development of area under BTC. Further, the Government of India may contribute an additional amount of Rs 250 crore per annum for the same period,’ Reddy said.

The State government has forwarded during November, three project proposals worth Rs 265 crore prepared by the BTC for funding under special development package, said the Minister.
