Bitter and unpleasant experience of last session continues to haunt most of us: Naidu in opening remarks of Winter session

New Delhi, Nov 29: Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday said in his opening remarks of the Winter session that the bitter and unpleasant experience of the last Monsoon session still continues to haunt most of the members, but all sections of the August House ended up as losers due to unruly conduct by some members.

He told the House that the Treasury bench wanted a detailed enquiry into the episode.

“The Treasury bench wanted a detailed enquiry into the conduct of some members during the final two days of the last turbulent session. I have tried to reach out to the leaders of various parties. Some of them made it very clear that they would not be party to any such enquiry,” he said.

He, however, noted that some leaders had expressed concern over the way functioning of the House was derailed in the last session and condemned the unruly incidents.

“I, on my part, was expecting and waiting that the leading lights of this House will take lead in expressing their outrage for what had happened during the last session with the assurance of introspection, and spirited efforts to prevent recurrences of such incidents. Such assurances by all concerned would have helped me in appropriately handling the matter. But unfortunately, it was not to be,” he stated.

While the last Monsoon session had been a virtual wash-out, the last few days repeatedly saw ugly scenes as Opposition members took on the government over several issues, including farm laws and alleged snooping case involving Israel spyware Pegasus.
