Bangladesh: Narayanganj factory fire claims 52 lives
Dhaka, Jul 9 : At least 52 people were killed and over 50 others injured in a fire that broke out in Shezan juice factory in Narayanganj.
The blaze that broke out at around 1700 hrs on Thursday has claimed 52 lives, the Dhaka Tribune reported.
Several workers jumped off the building to escape the inferno, it said.
Eighteen firefighting units were struggling to put out the fire.
It is suspected that the fire originated from the ground floor of the six-storey building, and spread quickly due to the presence of chemicals and plastic bottles.
Deputy Director of Narayanganj District Fire Service Abdullah Al Arefin said that it is not possible to say exactly how much damage has occurred and the cause of the fire, till it is doused.
The district administration has formed a five-member inquiry committee to look into the incident.
