Kerala: Girl books laptop of Rs 1.14 lakh, gets parcel of waste paper bundle
Thiruvananthapuram : In yet another case of online fraud, a student who booked a lap top of Rs 1.14 lakh through an online shopping site, was delivered a parcel of waste paper bundle, police said on Saturday.
Following a complaint received from the Paravoor-based female engineering student, the Kochi Cyber Police swung into action and traced a private company in Haryana through which had delivered the parcel.
The company initially denied the fraud, but later it returned the amount after it was told that the Cyber Police had collected all the scientific evidences of the crime, sources said on Saturday.
The student had booked the laptop during the COVID lockdown in June last and the payment was made from her mother’s bank account.
The girl who recorded the video of the opening of the parcel complained to the company about the fraud. But, no action was taken from their side, thus prompting her to file a complaint with the District Police Superintendent in Kochi.
Later, a special Cyber team of Aluva led by Superintendent of Police initiated a probe into the crime committed by the Haryana-based company selling agro and herbal products. Cyber SHO MB Latheef and Senior Civil Police Officer PM Thalhath were also in team.
