Koraput Emerges as the Coldest Spot in Odisha Amidst Unusual Weather Patterns

Bhubaneswar: In the last 24 hours, as night temperatures rise and foggy conditions prevail across Odisha, Koraput stands out as the sole location to record temperatures below the seasonal norm, according to the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre. The mercury dipped to and below 12 degrees Celsius at multiple places in the state, with Koraput taking the lead as the coldest at 7.4 degrees Celsius.

Notable temperature readings include G Udayagiri and Daringbani in Kandhamal at 7.8 and 9.5 degrees Celsius, respectively. Semiliguda in Koraput recorded 9.6 degrees Celsius, while Phulbani in Kandhamal stood at 10.5 degrees Celsius. Kirei in Sundargarh registered 10.7 degrees Celsius, Nabarangpur and Bhawanipatna marked 11 degrees Celsius each, and Boudh and Nuapada recorded 12 degrees Celsius each.

Contrastingly, the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack experienced milder temperatures, with readings of 17.2 and 16.5 degrees Celsius, respectively—almost 3 degrees above the normal range.

Rourkela and Phulbani grappled with dense fog this morning, significantly reducing visibility to 50 meters. Shallow to moderate fog was also observed in Koraput, Bhawanipatna, Jharsuguda, Paradip, and Keonjhar.

The Meteorological Office has issued a yellow warning for dense fog in one or two places across Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Cuttack, Angul, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Koraput, and Rayagada districts until Friday morning.
