Scam in scheme : Odisha BJP alleges scam in “Mo Cycle” scheme, held protest rally

Bhubaneswar, July 19 : BJP activists today held a demonstration in the heart of the city alleging massive corruption in the “Mo cycle “project and demanded arrest of all government officers involved in the scam.

The BJP activists led by Bhubaneswar district unit President Babu Singh, marched in a rally from the party office to Sishu Bhawan square and demanded the government to recover the money from the officers.

The party alleged that the government had bought 2,000 bi cycles at Rs 25,000 each in 2018 and spent Rs one crore more for their maintenance under the Mo cycle project with an objective to help people to commute from one place to another at a cheaper cost in the capital city. A 37 KM long coloured cycle track was also made for easy movement of the cyclists.

Mr.Singh said these cycles were sold as scrap to a scrap dealer at Rs 500 each and sought a clarification from the BMC and the BSCL as to how the cycles fitted with GPS landed in a scrap yard at Dumduma.

Accusing the BMC and the BSCL of looting crores of central assistance provided to the state under the smart city Yojana,he demanded a thorough investigation into the scam.

He questioned the silence of both the BMC and BSCL and not filing FIR to inquire into the scam even after it was widely reported in the media. The BJP leader alleged that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has betrayed the people of the capital city by showing a rosy picture of the smart city.
