Pak Need To Carry Momentum Forward: Maroof

Christchurch, March 23: Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof is hoping their momentous victory will not be a one-off as her side look to produce another strong performance against the defending champions England in the ICC Women’s World Cup on March 24. Pakistan defeated West Indies by eight wickets on March 21 to earn a first 50-over World Cup win since 2009.

“First I felt a sigh of relief, we were under pressure and it’s good to have a win,” said Maroof. “We just need to get this momentum forward and we’re looking forward to the two matches (against England and New Zealand), starting with tomorrow.”

When asked about England, who have to must win their remaining two group games to make it to the semifinals, Pakistan captain said, “They are a good side, we know they have many good players who can win matches for them. “We just need to stick to our basics. We’re planning to play to our strengths and what potential we have to stay in the process and then see what the result will be tomorrow.”
