Unidentified miscreants allegedly attacked Loknath Rout, vice chairperson of Soro Municipality, in Telanga Katuri near the Soro police station on Tuesday morning.
According to reports, the incident took place while Rout was out for his regular morning walk when two unidentified bike-borne miscreants hit him from behind, injuring him critically.
BJP leader sustained critical injuries in the attack which was reportedly carried out by two unidentified miscreants. He was initially admitted to Soro Hospital in critical condition. Later, he was shifted to Balasore Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
Raut was rushed to Balasore District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) but later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as his condition worsened.
It was suspected that the miscreants attacked Lokanath due to political enmity.
While Lokanath was a former Councillor, his wife is currently occupying the same position.
