Congress Bharat Jodo Yatra From Sep 7

New Delhi, Aug 9: The Congress on Tuesday announced a ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ from September 7 which will start at Kanyakumari and end in Kashmir, passing through 12 states and two Union Territories, covering a distance of around 3,500 km.

According to MP Jairam Ramesh, the padyatra will be completed in around 150 days.

Citing the reasons behind the announcement on August 9, he said: “On this day 80 years ago the Indian National Congress under the leadership and inspiration of Mahatma Gandhi launched the ‘Bharat Chodo’ movement that won our country freedom 5 years later.”

He said that Congress workers and leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, will participate in the event.

“The Congress appeals to all wanting to be part of a gigantic national endeavor to provide an alternative to the politics of fear, bigotry and prejudice and to the economics of livelihood destruction, increasing unemployment and growing inequalities,” he said.

The decision to launch the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ was taken at Udaipur in May this year.
