Rajiv Case Convict Nalini Granted One Month Parole: TN Govt Tells HC

Chennai, Dec 23: The Tamil Nadu government today informed the Madras High Court that one month Ordinary leave (parole) has been granted to S. Nalini to care of her ailing mother. Nalini is one of the seven life convicts in the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

A petition filed by her ailing mother, S. Padma, seeking a direction to the state government to grant one month parole in view of her (Mother’s) health condition. The hearing came up before a Division Bench of Justice P. N. Prakash and Justice R. Hemalatha. The State government said orders has been passed granting one month parole to her.

State Public Prosecutor (SPP) Hasan Mohammed Jinnah informed the Bench that orders granting parole has been issued yesterday and that she could walk out of the prison after fulfilling formalities and the conditions that had been imposed for grant of leave.

He also told the court that the government had already taken a decision to release all the seven convicts and that a September 2018 Cabinet resolution, recommending their release under Article 161 of the Constitution, was sent to the Governor.
