Gangster With Underworld Links Held

New Delhi, Jan 8: A 41-year-old gangster who had links with the underworld including a brother of Dawood Ibrahim has been arrested in Delhi, police said on Saturday.

Ajay Gujjar was allegedly involved in 24 cases of crime including murder, attempt to murder, extortion and assault.

A Black Belt in taekwondo who has won eight gold medals at the national level, Ajay Gujjar and Satendeer alias Satte had conspired to harm a senior official of the Tihar Jail here to avenge the death of Ankit Gurjar — an associate — in the prison, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Jasmeet Singh said.

Singh said Gujjar was absconding for four months. Satender was arrested in August last year. He said last year an audio call between two persons went viral in which Satender was heard asking Gujjar to arrange an AK-47 rifle to execute a member of a rival gang.

Gujjar was arrested after he reached the Badarpur bus stand in south Delhi. A semi-automatic pistol with five cartridges was recovered from him.

Singh said Gujjar was highly impressed with the luxurious lifestyle of Hafij Baloch and other gangsters of the underworld.

Besides Hafij Baloch, he was in touch with Iqbal Ibrahim Kaskar, a brother of Dawood Ibrahim, Subhash Thakur and Arif Jaan, a brother-in-law of Chhota Shakeel in Mumbai.
Gujjar was given the code name Bhaiji by Hafij Baloch.
