Odisha: Additional Rice Distribution Extended Under Food Security

Bhubaneswar, Apr 1: Odisha Government has extended distribution of additional 5 kg rice under State Food Security Scheme for a period of 6 months.

On the special occasion and commemoration of Utkala Dibasa, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik directed to extend distribution of additional 5 kg rice per month free of cost to SFSS beneficiaries for next six months.

Following the announcement, an additional 5 kg rice from the month of April 2022 to September 2022 will be given to each beneficiary of the State Food Security Scheme. As many as 8.09 lakh beneficiaries in the State will get the benefits, a release from CMO stated on Friday.

To meet this, total 24,270 tonnes of rice will be supplied with an expenditure of Rs. 91.70 crore from the state exchequer.

This will facilitate beneficiaries enrolled in the State Food Security Scheme to remain at par with beneficiaries under National Food Security Act.

The benefit of 5 KG free Rice was earlier extended for the beneficiaries of SFSS from December 2021 to March 2022.
