Canada S22 Belarusian Defence Officials
Ottawa, March 17: Canada has introduced sanctions against 22 senior Belarusian officials over Minsk’s support for Russia’s military operation in Ukraine, Global Affairs Canada announced on Thursday.
“These new measures impose restrictions on 22 senior officials of Belarus’s Department of Defence who supported the attack, notably by allowing their country to serve as a launch pad for the Russian invasion,” Canada’s foreign ministry said in a statement.
On February 24, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, responding to calls from the Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics for help in defending themselves from intensifying attacks by Ukrainian troops. The Russian Defense Ministry said the operation is targeting Ukrainian military infrastructure only.
