Childless Kannada Couple From Germany Prefer Girls Over Boys For Adoption In Cuttack

At a time when the girl child ratio is declining in many states, childless couples are showing more interest in adopting a girl than a boy in Odisha.

An Indian couple from Karnataka now residing in Germany adopted a 9-month-old baby girl at a function held at the Cuttack District Collector’s office here on Thursday.

Good Samaritans Thangavel Sarvana and Subhashini Munishyami told the media that they were married for 16 years now but did not have a child. So, they decided to adopt a child and applied for adoption seven years ago. After a long wait, the government accepted the couple’s application and provided them with an adoption form from the social organisation Servants of India Society.

The society provided the couple with a 9-month-old girl child for adoption. In accordance with the law of the land, the Cuttack District Collector Bhavani Shankar Chayani handed over the child to Thangavel Sarvana and Subhashini Munishyami at a special function organised in his office today. The couple was visibly overjoyed to adopt the girl child.

District Social Welfare Officer Phamagi Parida and members of the Servants of India Society were present at the function.
