All Ukraine Returnees Will Be Rehabilitated: Mamata Banerjee
Kolkata, Mar 16: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday assured all 391 returnees from war-ravaged Ukraine, mostly medical students, to be rehabilitated in the government-owned or private hospitals according to their position they held during studies in the eastern European nation. ”
We shall do our best to rehabilitate all the returnees from Ukraine under special circumstances and humanitarian grounds in association with the private hospitals operating in the state,” Banerjee told the students in presence of senior officials of the government and private hospitals.
Interacting with the Ukraine returnees at the Khudiram Anusilan indoor stadium here, Banerjee said her government has decided to take care of the students under special circumstances with the approval of the National Medical Commission. She also directed the secretary, CMO, PB Salim to rush New Delhi with the state government request letter to get approval from the National Medical Commission for immediate action so that the students do not lose any academic year. She said all the students will be absorbed according to their academic year, either in the government-run medical colleges or into the private medical colleges.
She said the government would bear the expenses for the students to be taken in public run colleges and in the private hospital, it will be a 50-50 share of government and private institutions. The senior officials of the private hospitals present in the meeting have agreed to the chief minister’s proposals. Altogether 391 Ukraine returnees, most of them are medical students, of them 11 interns and some are engineering wing. Banerjee also offered the returnee to avail the “students credit card” launched by her government for a loan of Rs 10 lakh which is returnable with a simple interest in 15 years. UNI
