Obituary: Veteran And Versatile Actor Mihir Das Passes Away

Odia cine actor Mihir Das is no more. Too soon and too young for a man who failed to arbitrate between life and death.

Although Odia cinema had remained being one of the facets where realism had remained the primordial ingredient of the cinematic charm, Mihir Das, mainly in focus for his character rolls, can be remembered as an actor who saturated themes with realism.

Soft spoken off the screen, Mihir Das had an enviable quality to make acting appear simpler on the screen as well. A natural actor by instinct.

As a good actor in Odia cinema, Das anchored a TV show(Ashara Aloka) playing the role of an moderator and he did make things easy for the ones who come for a hope of compromise.

However, a man who could strike solutions for hundreds of families, somehow failed to ward off a time which took him away.

The “Pua Mora Bhola Shankar” fame and the legendary Odia Cinema Actor Mihir Das is no more. Too early to bid adieu to his innumerable Odia fans, friends and family. He was just 63 and undergoing treatment at a private hospital here.

Mihir Das was hospitalised after suffering a mild heart attack, sources in the medical establishment said. He was ailing for quite a long time for several diseases. The 63-year-old actor, was also a chronic renal patient and had been undergoing dialysis for the last few years.

Mihir Das, born in Mayurbhanj on February 1959, was married to singer and film artist Sangita Das. She died in 2010 due to heart attack. He debuted in the Odia film industry with an art film “School Master” and then in commercial (non-art) film “Mathura Bijay” in 1979. He received wider applause and recognition for his performance in “Pua Mora Bholashankar”. A veteran actor for more than three decades, he received Best Actor award from the state government for his performance in movies Laxmi Pratima in 1998 and Pheria Mo Suna Bhauni in 2005.

Mihir Das is survived with his son, Amlan Das and daughter-in law, Bhumika. Amlan Das is also an Odia Film actor. His sad and untimely death is an irreparable loss to Odia Cinema and Entertainment Industry.
