Mumbai, Feb 17: A 14-year-old boy who was depressed after watching ‘Free Fire Game’ on his mobile phone, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his home in Dadar in central Mumbai on Sunday last.
The deceased has been identified as Tirtha Khanvilkar, a class VII student. His parents had given him the mobile phone for online education due to Covid-19 pandemic.
During the online schooling, he started playing ‘Free Fire Game’ on his mobile and eventually went into depression. On Sunday last, his parents had gone out and he was alone at home.
Before committing suicide, he called his parents, but they did not pick up phone as they were travelling on bike. When they called him back, there was no response, so they rushed home.
Since the door was locked from inside, his father broke open the window, went inside and found his son hanging from the ceiling fan. Police has registered a case of suicide in this regard. The Cyber Crime Cell of Mumbai police is carrying out investigation into the matter, sources added.
