Bhubaneswar, Feb 26: The sleuths of Vigilance department on Saturday arrested Odisha Motor Vehicle Department, (OMVD) Jharsuguda Assistant Sub Inspector Harekrushna Nayak for possession of disproportionate assets worth over Rs 2.24 crore and forwarded him to the Court of Special Judge Vigilance, Cuttack.
Vigilance sources said a case was registered against Nayak, and his spouse U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 PC Act, 1988 as amended by Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
On the allegation of possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income by Nayak, simultaneous house searches were conducted at six places on Friday by six teams of Odisha Vigilance led by three DSPs, 10 Inspectors and other staff.
During house searches, One double storied building at Friends colony, Mangalabag, Cuttack worth Rs 61.4 lakh, One double storied building at Maluda, in Puri worth Rs 70 lakh, One double storied building at Ram Nagar, Kamapalli chhak, Berhampur worth Rs 37.99 lakh five plots including 2 plots at Cuttack, 1 plot at Berhampur and 2 plots at Krushnaprasad, Puri were unearthed in the name of Nayak and his spouse.
In addition to it, vigilance sources said, fixed deposits, Bank and Insurance deposits worth over Rs 18.12 lakh, Rs 4.46 lakh in cash, Gold, silver and household articles worth over Rs 9.5 lakh, 4 two-wheelers were also seized.
After a thorough search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of Nayak, were calculated and he was found in possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income to the tune of Rs 2,24,19, 798 which constituted 440% of his known sources of income.
