22 Killed, 20 Missing In Ecuador Landslide Due To Heavy Rain
Quito : At least 22 people were killed and 20 went missing in a huge landslide that occurred due to heaviest rainfall in Ecuador, officials said. According to BBC, mud and rocks were carried down the slopes of the nearby Pichincha volcano on Tuesday. Eight houses collapsed in the landslide. At least 47 people were injured in the incident. The amount of rain that hit the mountain was almost 40 times more than had been forecast, BBC quoted weather experts as saying. According to Quito Mayor Santiago Guarderas, Monday’s rainfall was “a record figure” not seen since 2003.
