New Delhi, Dec 14 : Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra on Thursday approached the Supreme Court to list for urgent hearing a plea related to her expulsion from the Lok Sabha.
The matter is likely to come up before Chief Justice Dr D YChandrachud on Friday.
Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi representing Moitra mentioned the petition before the Chief Justice seeking a hearing for Thursday or Friday. The CJI asked Singhvi to send an email and he would have a look at it. The CJI then said the matter may not have been registered. “If the email was sent I would have a look at it right away,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Singhvi had mentioned the matter before a bench headed by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul who asked him to mention before the CJI for necessary directions.
Singhvi sought an urgent hearing as the Supreme Court will close for winter vacation from December 16.
On December 8, Moitra was expelled from Lok Sabha in the alleged Cash for Query case. The Lok Sabha adopted the report of its Ethics committee that held her guilty of accepting illegal gratification from businessman Darshan Hiranandani in return for sharing her parliamentary portal’s log in id and password with him purportedly for asking questions targeting the Adani group.
Moitra has approached the Supreme Court challenging the power of the Ethics committee to recommend her expulsion from the Lok Sabha and claimed that the committee took the decision even when there was no evidence that she accepted cash from Hiranandani in exchange for giving him her parliamentary portal’s login credentials.
