Puri : Puri District Duperintendent of Police K Vishal Singh said Additional superintendent of police Purna Chandra Pradhan has been asked to investigate into blast in Balanga Police station and submit a report by this evening.
The inquiry was ordered after a major portion of the Balanga Police station was damaged in a powerful explosion in the midnight last night.
Mr Pradhan will probe whether necessary procedures and guidelines had been maintained for storing seized inflamable and explosive articles inside the Malkahana.
Mr Singh said If any deficiency was found the personnel responsible for the lapses will be taken to task .
In addition to it steps will be taken to defuse all inflamable items like fire crackers, gas cylinders and explosives before storing in Malkhanas of police stations the SP added.
In the wake of this explosion in Balanga Police station opposition political parties blamed the government for its failure to protect the Police station in the poll bound Pipili Assembly constituency. By Election to Pipili Assembly constituency is scheduled to be held on September 30 next.
Out of the 15 gram panchayats under the Balanga police station limits Rupadeipur, Rathpurusottampur, Saraswatipur and Chandradeipur only four grampanchayats come under Pipili assembly constituency.
